Cold hands and feet: Why could this happen, should you worry about it and how to deal with it? “Cold hands and feet are a common complaint,” says vascular specialist Natalie Evans, MD. “But generally, when this happens in young healthy people, it isn’t anything to worry about. ” But if your hands and feet feel cold frequently and constantly, here is some advice for you to diagnose the latent problem.
Check if you have anemia
Anemia is one of the underlying conditions that cause unusually cold hands. Anemia is a common word describing a condition at which you carry out not enough red blood cells to fetch oxygen to total parts of your body. The symptoms of anemia contain fatigue, weakness, pale skin, dizziness, cold hands, and feet.
Most anemia can be diagnosed with a blood experiment or a progression of blood tests and most anemia can be treated. Your physician will restrain your hemoglobin and hematocrit levels.
Test if you have thrombus
Thrombus is also known as thromboangiitis obliterans. The arteries and veins at the arms, legs, hands, and feet are inflamed, swollen, and can be blocked with small blood clots. The symptoms include pain and tenderness at the hands and feet. It can be caused by smoking or using cigarette products.
Discover if you have diabetes
Diabetes is a condition where blood sugar is not regulated. Diabetic people have hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. Common symptoms include urinating often, thirsty or hungry, fatigue, blurry vision, unexplained weight loss, pain, or numbness at the hands.
Test if you have Raynaud
Raynaud affects women more than men. It causes the hands and feet to feel numb and abnormally cold because of a response to cold temperatures or stress. The small blood vessels at the hands and feet proceed into spasms when exposed to cold or to stress.
Treatment includes patient education, measures to affirm body temperature, pharmacological therapy with calcium channel blockers such as nifedipine or amlodipine. But side effects associated with the calcium channel blockers include headache, dizziness, flushing, fast heartbeat, and swelling.
Test if you have scleroderma
Scleroderma is a disorder where skin and connective tissue hardens and tightens. It affects the skin, especially the skin of the fingers and toes. One of the queer symptoms is numbness and coldness at the fingers and toes because of cold temperatures or stress.
Scleroderma can be difficult to diagnose because there is no experiment available and it is quite rare.
Check the discoloration of the hands
One symptom of cold hands is hand discoloration. Your hands can be white, white-purple, red, purple, blue, or white-yellow.
Check if there any odd sensations at the hand
If there is something else going with your cold hands, you can feel sensations. These sensations include pain, throbbing, burning, tingling, numbness, or loss of feeling.
Notice bodily changes
Cold hands connected with bodily changes can point to an underlying issue. For example, changes at weight may be caused by diabetes and hypothyroidism. Another symptom can be fatigue. Frequent urination, common and muscle pain, depression, and blurred vision can also be symptoms of an underlying condition.
